13-Tones Metallophones: The Harmony Voice

All Primary metallophones have 32 x 8 mm (Soprano and Alto) or 36 x 10 mm (Bass) sound bars with fundamental tuning, and the newly designed resonator box with enhanced acoustics are made of solid and laminated birch. The resonator boxes of the Musicube metallophones are made from FSC® certified timber from well managed forests, and all wood surfaces are protected with Water-based paint, an environmentally safe, all-natural varnish.

The bars with the laser of the note enable a visual connection between the sheet music and the instrument — when improvising with self-created melodies, children always have a visual reference to the printed notation. Each metalophone is equipped with a carrying bag to stow 3 bars (2 x f-sharp, 1 x b-flat).

The Alto Voice: Where Class Harmony Lives

In a classroom ensemble, the alto part is where the music actually holds together. An octave below the soprano metallophone, the 051302 carries borduns, broken chords and counter-melodies — the parts that make a group of beginners sound like an ensemble instead of a unison line.

  • An octave down from the 051301: same 32 × 8 mm bars, same layout, register shifted for harmony duty
  • Deep 221 mm resonance box — the added air volume gives the lower bars their body
  • Same three-key system: C, G or F major by swapping the F-sharp and B-flat add-ons
  • Baby blue mallets: the 3-level hardness system keeps voicing consistent across the choir

Pair one soprano with two altos and a bass, and a single music lesson becomes a full orchestration exercise — exactly how the Primary line was designed to be taught.

First Harmony Patterns: Bordun and Beyond

The alto register is where Orff-style accompaniment begins. A bordun — the open-fifth drone played on C and G — is usually a child’s first harmony part, and on the 051302 both notes sit within one hand’s reach.

  • Open-fifth bordun: the two-bar drone that anchors an entire class song
  • Broken-chord textures: alternate C–E–G figures fill the middle of the ensemble sound
  • I–V accompaniment: two chords per verse turn a sung melody into an arrangement
  • Question-and-answer parts: altos answer the soprano’s phrase in the lower octave
  • Ostinato loops: short repeating patterns younger players can hold all lesson long

Because the add-on bars retune the same instrument to G or F major, these patterns transfer across keys without relearning the layout — the geometry of the bordun stays fixed under the mallets while the tonal center moves.

Product Positioning

The 051302 Alto is the workhorse of our three-part Primary metallophone platform: sixteen aluminum bars (32 × 8 mm, including the F-sharp and B-flat add-ons) spanning C4 to A5 on a deep birch resonance box. Where the 051301 Soprano leads melodies, this model carries the harmony that makes classroom ensembles sound full — and its 221 mm box depth gives the lower bars the air they need.

It shares the production line, tuning bench and certification process with our own consumer brand Musicube — the same instrument that is already selling on the US retail market under the Musicube name. Complete the section with the 051303 Bass (C3–A4, dark blue mallets) and the three registers cover a full C-major-to-F-major repertoire from floor-shaking low C to singing high A.

Quality & Manufacturing

The resonator box is built from 12 mm birch plywood with FSC® certified timber from well managed forests, finished in water-based paint — an environmentally safe, all-natural varnish. Special aluminum bars (32 × 8 mm) receive sandblasting and anodizing treatment for the clear and powerful sound, and sit on flexible pins over multiple resonance chambers. Batch-level EN 71, ASTM F963 and GB 6675 reports are available for every shipment, issued under your brand name.

OEM / ODM: Make It Yours

Once the instrument is proven, the next question is how it starts carrying your brand:

  • Logo: print on the birch resonance box, from low trial quantities.
  • Songbook: your brand and your own song selection on the colored-keys songbook.
  • Mallet colors: the three-level hardness system can ship in your Pantone-matched colors at volume.
  • Packaging: the brown box takes a full-color sleeve, or we quote a full-color box from volume.
  • FSC® claims: chain-of-custody documentation supports your sustainability labeling under your brand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does the alto differ from the soprano metallophone?

A: Register and box depth. Both use 32 × 8 mm aluminum bars with the same 16-bar three-key system, but the 051302 spans C4–A5 (an octave lower) in a deeper 221 mm resonance box — built for harmony and bordun parts rather than melodies.

Q: Why are the mallets baby blue?

A: Mallet color is the quick-visual system of the Primary line — yellow for soprano, baby blue for alto, dark blue for bass. Teachers hand out parts by color, and the hardness level behind each color keeps voicing consistent across the choir.

Q: Can this alto model play together with the soprano and bass versions?

A: That is the design intent — the 051301 (C5–A6), 051302 (C4–A5) and 051303 Bass (C3–A4) form a three-part choir with matching bar construction and the same rubber-mallet hardness system, so one classroom runs melody, harmony and bass simultaneously.

Q: What is the MOQ for OEM orders?

A: MOQ and carton configuration depend on your customization level and destination market — they are confirmed on your quotation rather than a fixed published number. Send your quantity and target market for a costed proposal within 24 hours.
