The tunable bongo is our hand-percussion entry outside the tambourine and frame-drum lines: a matched pair of drums joined by a solid wooden block, with real goat-leather heads tensioned by metal hardware and a tuning wrench included in the box. Five models cover two size pairs — the 6″+7″ pair (031509, 031510, 031511, 031512) and the smaller 4″+5″ pair (031513) — across three woods and two hardware finishes, so a buyer can build a whole bongo line with one supplier.

Five Models, Three Woods, Two Hardware Finishes

Bongo buyers decide on two things — how the shell looks and whether the tuning hardware is meant to be seen. This family splits cleanly along both.

031509 · 6″+7″ Natural pinewood shell, black hardware — the value model and the volume mover
031510 · 6″+7″ Two-tone neem + pinewood vertical stripes, black hardware — the warm brown-stripe look
031511 · 6″+7″ Solid beechwood, black hardware — a denser, orange-red grain
031512 · 6″+7″ Two-tone neem + pinewood with a chrome-plated rim and exposed metal tuning lugs — the only model where the tuning structure is visible, and the largest shell in the family
031513 · 4″+5″ Natural pinewood shell, black hardware — the small pair, for young players and gift programs

All five keep the same shape of design: a solid wood connecting block, goat-leather heads, black feet and the same full-color box — so a mixed order arrives as one line rather than five unrelated products.

How to Choose Between the Two Size Pairs

The 6″+7″ pair is the standard bongo format and the one to lead with; the 4″+5″ pair is the smaller option for younger players and tighter shelf space. One practical note for your catalogue and web team: because each pair is photographed to fill the frame, the two sizes can look similar in a product photo. The physical difference is real, and is stated in the size table above — present it with text and dimensions rather than relying on the image alone.

Where Tuning Happens

Both drums are tuned with the supplied wrench over metal hardware. On four models the L-rods run inside the shell so the outside stays clean; on the 031512 the rim is chrome-plated and the tuning lugs are exposed, so the drum both looks and reads as an instrument you service. Tell us which presentation suits your market and we will build the range around it.

Ensemble and world-music groups — a real skin head sits under jingle instruments without being drowned out

Music schools and tutors — tunable heads mean one set keeps working term after term

Gift and retail programs — full-color box, shelf-ready without repackaging

Importers and brand owners — OEM/ODM under your brand from low trial quantities

Product Positioning

The bongo is one of two tunable families we build: the other is the 10″ tunable hand drum (031020), which uses a chrome tension hoop over a buffalo-leather head. Buyers who need a fixed-head frame drum instead will find our high-grade beech hand drum and the standard hand drum in the same catalogue, while the jingle side of the range starts with the kids tambourine. The point of grouping them here is simple: a school or importer can assemble a complete percussion kit — drums, bongos and jingles — from one factory rather than three.

It is built on the same production line as our own consumer brand Musicube.

Quality & Manufacturing

The shells are turned from solid wood and finished in PU paint; the goat-leather heads are fitted and tensioned by hand, and tuning is checked before packing. Where applicable, product testing and compliance documentation are reviewed according to the target market and agreed product requirements — tell us your destination market and we will confirm what applies to your order.

OEM / ODM: Make It Yours

Once the instrument is proven, the next question is how it starts carrying your brand:

  • Logo: print on the shell or the connecting block, from low trial quantities.
  • Woods: pinewood, beechwood and neem + pinewood are all in production — a custom stain can be quoted at volume.
  • Hardware: black-painted or chrome-plated, matched to the rim and lugs.
  • Head: natural goat leather is standard — the tuning hardware makes head replacement straightforward in the field.
  • Packaging: the full-color box takes your artwork natively — no sleeve needed.
  • Set building: mixed 6″+7″ and 4″+5″ cartons for classroom kits, barcoded per SKU.
  • Documentation: where applicable, product testing and compliance documentation are reviewed according to the target market and agreed product requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between the five models?

A: Two things. The wood: pinewood on the 031509 and 031513, beechwood on the 031511, and a neem + pinewood two-tone stripe on the 031510 and 031512. The hardware: four models use black-painted rims with the L-rods inside the shell, while the 031512 has a chrome-plated rim with exposed tuning lugs and a slightly larger shell.

Q: Which pair should we stock first?

A: Lead with the 6″+7″ pair — it is the standard bongo format and the volume mover; start with the pinewood 031509 unless your market responds to the two-tone look, in which case open with the 031510. Add the 4″+5″ 031513 for preschool, gift and tighter shelf-space programs.

Q: Can the heads be replaced?

A: Yes. The goat-leather heads are held by metal tuning hardware and a wrench is included, so a head can be re-tensioned or replaced without specialised tools. If you want spare heads quoted alongside an order, tell us on your enquiry.

Q: What is the MOQ for OEM orders?

A: MOQ and carton configuration depend on your customization level and destination market — they are confirmed on your quotation rather than a fixed published number. Send your quantity and target market for a costed proposal within 24 hours.
